Utilising our bespoke chemical blending service and expertise, Jems Environmental were able to provide substantial cost savings to a client where we were tasked with streamlining the operational cost of the treatment plant.
Our team carried out an extended flow and load survey at the site. This involved several weeks investigation and analysis on the site with our mobile laboratory, understanding the peaks and troughs of the incoming wastewater flow to the site and the varying levels of toxicity within that flow.
This is typically variable in the food & beverage industry due to sites operating in cycles of production and cleaning. It can also vary if a site only operates a day shift rather than 24-hour shift for example. Once we had gained a good understanding of the flow and load, we then began the treatability testing with a variety chemical products and different volume blends of each product, using the site’s existing dosing set-points as a datum point.
The site was able to achieve a significant saving on their chemical usage. Based on their average monthly spend, their monthly saving was around £13,500.00 per month.
The new bespoke chemical blend tailored to this site’s wastewater also improved the quality of the treatment process, which in turn provided an energy saving on the biological treatment phase of the plant and helped bolster compliance and protect the local environment by producing a cleaner treated wastewater for discharge to river.
